When you see Hawaiians portrayed blowing a conch shell as a horn that is historically incorrect. The conch and triton shells being used as horns is a Tahitian tradition.
The ancient Hawaiians used a section of bamboo fashioned into a horn - a Pu 'Ohe. These Pu 'Ohe are inspired, designed, and made right here on Kauai from bamboo collected from a sacred grove in Kauai's lush interior.
Pilipo is a local artist and Hawaiian Cultural Practitioner who performs locally as a fire knife dancer: www.ahilele.com
Each Pu 'Ohe is individually signed by Pilipo and is made from individual segments of bamboo. Because they are made from natural materials their size and look will vary. The size ranges from 12" to about 15".
