Lonnie Sykos Gourds

These gourds are locally grown and decorated by Kauai artist Lonnie Sykos. He has carefully  studied the old Kauai and Niihau styles of gourd decorating.

These unique techniques produce images on the gourds that have clean and fine lines compared to many other gourd decorating traditions.

He grows his own gourds in Wailua, on Kauai's eastside. Lonnie carefully carves the designs into the skins of the gourds and dyes them in the old Hawaiian way, producing these unique and beautiful results.

Each one of these gourds is an individual treasure. They are not, and cannot, be mass produced. 

They can be displayed as a piece of art or played as instruments!
